The Breast Shield Assembly (BSA) includes some design elements that help to slow mold growth, however, just like with any air-based pump (Tupperware, as well!), thoroughly cleaning all parts per the cleaning guidelines is necessary to prevent any type of growth. We recommend that you rinse out the inside of the BSAs (specifically the flange body) as well as the tubing every couple of weeks with warm, soapy, water and leave the assembly to air dry.
One very effective cleaning tip our customers have shared with us and others is to rinse the inside of the BSA (aka flange) and tubing with vinegar, then rinse with warm water and let air dry.
