Set aside time to familiarize yourself with the pump. Review the user manual and watch our handy tutorial videos on how to use the Smart Pump.
Once the pump is set up, place the unit on a flat surface in front of you. Make sure it’s plugged into an electrical socket or is fully charged.
When placing the flange over the nipple make sure the pump is off. The breast shield should go on easily and be centered over the nipple. Hold the breast shield onto your breast with your thumb and index finger, supporting the breast with the palm of your hand. Make sure that the bottle is vertical so it does not leak.
Does your flange fit well? To check, see if your nipple can fit between the bellows of your flange. If so, remove the flange. Turn the pump to "Stim Mode" then place the flange over your nipple. You can adjust nipple position until you are comfortable and you feel steady suction. Contact email@example.com if you need further assistance.
A well-fitting flange should feel like gentle pulling and tugging, but should not pinch.
If you feel pinching, double check to make sure you are in “Stim Mode”.
If the unit still pinches remove the flange by applying pressure right next to the flange on the surface of the breast to break the suction. Take an extra moment to be gentle with your skin and body and avoid pulling the flange directly off.
Recenter the nipple in the middle of the flange, and tip the nipple slightly upwards. Allow the nipple to be slowly pulled into the flange for a period of about six seconds. If that is not comfortable, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org so that we can help you.
